Everything that you want people to hear must go into the PA, either through a mic or a direct input. What would you all recommend if we wanted to invest in our own system, but not spend a fortune? What mics and additional components? How would you recommend we set up the mics? We are new to the whole sound system setup, so any tips are appreciated.ĭo people tend to mic each individual instrument, as well as each vocal member? Just seems like a lot of mics in a relatively small space. However, we would still like to be able to sound OK. We are not getting paid for these performances at this point, and they are just for fun. We do have a single mic that we used for kindof the "traditional one-mic" setup for a live venue, but received comments that when someone would step up to solo, the rest of the band kind of became "white noise." At another show at a local bar, the place didn't have enough mics for the instruments/vocals so the banjo went unmicced, which obviously creates a weird balance issue. However, we do not have our own mic system, so have been at the mercy of the venue to provide mics for us. We have played a few places, mostly indoor. I am playing in recently-formed 5-piece band (Banjo, Mandolin, Bass, Lead Guitar, and Rhythm Guitar/Main Vocals). I feel that this topic is probably brought up a bunch, and was hesitant to post it, but I couldn't find it in searches, so thought I'd make the post anyway.
